North: harbour-side towers and leafy streets

From dense harbour-side apartments to larger blocks under tall trees further up the line.

The North region stretches from the high-density centre around North Sydney up the north shore toward quieter, leafier suburbs. The housing contrast is large: office and apartment towers near the harbour, and detached homes on generous blocks, many with mature gardens, further out.

What shapes plumbing here

Near the harbour, buildings are mostly strata-managed, so who you speak to first is usually a building manager, and access can be restricted. Further out, large trees and sloping gullies influence drainage, and older homes may carry original pipework behind modern renovations. In both settings, work in tight or heritage-sensitive spaces needs more planning than the job itself suggests.

  • In apartments, report faults to the building manager before calling a plumber.
  • Large trees near drains deserve camera checks if blockages return.
  • Renovated kitchens and bathrooms may hide older pipework behind new finishes.
