Plumbing in Concord

Larger blocks, mature gardens and three generations of housing on the Parramatta River side of the inner west.

Concord is a river-side suburb in Sydney's inner west, sitting between Burwood, Strathfield and the Parramatta River, and close to Concord West and Cabarita. It is known for roomy blocks and tree-lined streets, with Federation, interwar and post-war houses standing side by side and some newer townhouses on subdivided sites.

Space, trees and layered houses

Roomy blocks tend to mean longer pipe runs: a long drain between house and connection, a longer garden tap line, and sometimes extra buildings or granny flats with their own connections. Mature trees are an asset, but they are also a leading cause of drain intrusion as clay lines age. Townhouses built on subdivided blocks can have plumbing that is newer but compressed into less space, with shared connections that are worth understanding.

  • If you have large trees near the drain line, ask for periodic camera inspections.
  • Extra buildings on the block may have their own isolation valve. Find it.
  • Townhouse owners should clarify what is shared with neighbouring dwellings.

Nearby suburbs

Croydon and Ashfield lie to the south-east, and Abbotsford is on the river nearby. The Croydon guide and Abbotsford guide describe similar housing in different settings.
